“Cultivating present, moment-by-moment awareness helps
you come home to who you are and always have been.”

- Lama Surya Das, Awakening the Buddha Within

Mindfulness & Self-Change

Mindfulness IS:

  • Moment-to-moment, present awareness
  • Pure attention, staying alert, awake, and  focused in the now
  • Experiencing life without judging it
  • Maintaining awareness of bodily sensations, flow of thoughts, feelings and emotions, and events as they occur
  • A way to watch the mind
  • Acknowledging and letting go
  • The truth of what is
  • Meeting and connecting with each experience as it happens
  • A way of being

Mindfulness IS NOT:

  • Automatic behavior
  • Living in fantasies, fears, or anticipation of the future
  • Suppressing or denying our thoughts and feelings
  • Emphasizing doing
  • Being so busy that we forget to stay in touch with who we are, what we are, and what we are doing
  • Being distracted, scattered, and careless
  • Striving for perfection
  • Judging
  • A mysterious mystical state

Begin cultivating mindfulness by simply slowing down, taking a deep breath, and bringing attention to what is happening in the moment: Breathe. Observe. Let go of everything for the moment. Soften and smile. Relax. Try this liberally throughout your day.
