Barriers to Change: Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs lurk in the background, similar to our fears, always ready to challenge our confidence by planting seeds of doubt. Use the following list to identify your limiting beliefs:

  • I’m really just not that smart
  • I’m just not as good as other people
  • I never come out on top
  • No matter how good things start out, something always ruins my efforts
  • I cannot really change—I am who I am
  • I don’t have the family background to be what I really want to be
  • I’ve never been able to do it before; why try now?
  • If I get too happy and relaxed, something will go wrong
  • If people really knew how much of the time I was “faking it,” I would really be in trouble
  • If I tried to change, it would upset other people
  • It’s selfish of me to spend so much time and energy on me
  • I don’t deserve a second chance
